Gandhara Civilization

Located approximately 32 kilometers northwest of Islamabad along the historic Grand Trunk Road, Taxila, a sub-district of Rawalpindi, is recognized as one of the few ancient cities globally that has been revitalized into a living town following extensive archaeological excavations in the 20th century. Today, Taxila stands as a dynamic urban center, characterized by its vibrant bazaars and multi-story commercial complexes. It serves as an internationally recognized industrial hub, home to heavy machinery and ordnance factories, as well as a focal point for small cottage and household industries specializing in stoneware and pottery. The Buddhist archaeological sites and monuments, which span over 20 square kilometers in Taxila, were designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1980, underscoring the town's historical and cultural significance.
